The Album
Meteora is the second "official" studio album by the Los Angeles-based sextet Linkin Park (there was a remix album, Reanimation between Hybrid Theory and this one, as well as fanclub-exclusive releases). It was released March 25, 2003 on Warner Bros./Machine Shop Records.
The tracks on the album were all written by the members of the band: rapper/singer/instrumentalist Mike Shinoda, lead vocalist Chester Bennington, lead guitarist Brad Delson, bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, drummer Rob Bourdon, and DJ/art director Joe Hahn. The album was produced by Don Gilmore, and Linkin Park (that usually means Mike Shinoda, and Brad Delson).
Many of the songs for Meteora were born in a tour bus in early 2002, but the official recording began in August of that year, and went on until December.
The title, Meteora is a reference to a rock formation in Greece, whose name means "lofty," or "elevated."
