About the Song

"I Thought She Knew" is a moving a cappella ballad, written by the late Robin Wiley, *NSYNC's long-time vocal coach and arranger. It was written when the group first formed (1995-1996), so they could learn to sing together (and demonstrate how well they did so). They performed it in several showcases while searching for a record deal, and it appeared on their demo.

It eventually appeared on *NSYNC's historic No Strings Attached album in 2000, where Wiley also produced the track. I say "historic," because No Strings Attached sold 2.4 million copies in its first week, and eventually reached over 11 million (certified diamond).

Lyrics:

Verses 1 & 2 - Justin Timberlake

She was my once in a lifetime
Happy ending come true
Oh I guess I should have told her
But I thought she knew

She said I took her for granted
Last thing I would do
Oh I'll never understand it
Cause I thought she knew

Chorus - all, JC Chasez on lead

I thought she knew
My world revolved around her
My love light burned for her alone
But she couldn't see the flame
Only myself to blame
I should have known
I should have known

Verse three - Joey Fatone

A heart full of words left unspoken
Now that we're through
I'd sell my soul to have this silence broken
Oh I thought she knew
I thought she knew

Chorus - all, Chris Kirkpatrick on lead

I thought she knew
My world revolved around her
My love light burned for her alone
But she couldn't see the flame
Only myself to blame
I should have known
I should have known

Bridge/Verse One reprise - Justin lead

She was my once in a lifetime
Happy ending come true
Oh I guess I should have told her
But I thought she knew
(I thought she knew)
I thought she knew
(I thought she knew)
I thought she knew
(I thought she knew)

Oh I thought that she knew
(knew, knew, knew, knew)
Yeah oooooooo....
