About Dianne Wiest

Dianne Evelyn Wiest was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 28, 1948. She originally had ambitions of being a ballerina, but was bitten by the acting bug.

Wiest won two Oscars (Academy Awards) for Best Supporting Actress: first for Hannah and Her Sisters in 1987, and again for Bullets Over Broadway in 1995. Both were directed by Woody Allen, whom she has worked with five times (so far). Their other collaborations were: The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Radio Days (1987), and September (1987).

In addition to her two Oscar wins, she was also nominated for her supporting (and scene-stealing) role as Helen Buckman in Ron Howard's now-classic Parenthood.

"I'd like to play a real cold, mean mass murderer. Some cruel, hard-bitten women, like the roles Glenn Close gets, just to show that I am capable of not being vulnerable and not being fragile on screen." - Dianne Wiest [on being typecast]
