Marriage means different things to different people, depending upon their religion, culture/heritage, national origin, family traditions, and so on.

However, the dictionary defines marriage as:

"The state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law..."

My Marriage

I've been married to my husband since May of 2007. He is my best friend. We didn't have a traditional wedding, just a little chapel ceremony in Reno, Nevada with our mothers as our only guests. As an added bonus, the little chapel wedding meant we didn't have to start our marriage off in terrible debt. We probably wouldn't have been able to buy our house if we'd had a big wedding and reception.

Yes, sometimes it bothers me that we didn't get the "real" experience (especially when I watch wedding shows on TV), but I just remind myself that our marriage is real. And that's what matters in the end. We are truly partners in this life and have each others' backs in good and bad times.
